Our primary focus is on information. Backed by the
practical experience of actually building on-site rooms here in the
5th Circle of Hell (Houston, TX), our assistance is available to
DYI's, building professionals and resellers 7 days a week.
General recommendations are provided by manufacturers, but we
work on a case-by-case basis - no 2 applications are necessarily
alike. If we can make it work in our heat and humidity, we can
make it work anywhere.
Our contractors who build under the ChateauCraft name
have traveled outside the Houston-Dallas-Austin area, but such
expense is not usually necessary. We've "built" hundreds of
rooms over the phone, working with clients and local
resources.
Although the complexity of proper wine cellar
construction is not Enron accounting, it is somewhat
specialized. Absent very specific criteria, no mechanical
system will perform properly. Failure to maintain temperature,
constant running, excess condensation, mold and mildew, any
number of issues may arise ... we're dealing with machines and
Mother Nature - there is no absolute answer as to what may or may
not happen due to improper construction or ventilation.
For moderate sized collections of a several hundred
bottles, conversion or construction may not make "dollars and sense"
other than as a neat toy. Enhancing the resale of a home is
questionable - much like a swimming pool, the attractiveness of the
"feature" depends on the potential buyer. And, of course, if
you do move, you can't take a room (versus a cabinet) with
you.
